Presidents Report

Gregg Welin

It has been a good month. The temperatures were mild, we got some snow, the groomers are running, and the trails are in great condition. What more can we ask for??

The Board of Directors is starting to do a little snooping around for a new groomer. We are sitting pretty good financially and are considering replacing the DX, which is the little groomer that normally grooms the east side of the county. We would like to try and find something with a little bit wider tracks so we have more carrying ability when we get in deeper snow in some of the ditches.

There have been quite a few accidents around the area lately, so please slow down, and use caution on the crossings. Some of the corners in the wooded trails are also icy, due to the warm weather, and are quite slippery, so be careful. We do not want to have any fatalities.

Our next club meeting is February 24th at Springsteel. This is our election meeting to elect officers, and the board of directors for the coming year. Please come out to the meeting, have a bite to eat, socialize, and vote.

Remember to keep tabs on the website to find out about trail conditions, calendar raffle winners, activities etc. We are working hard at keeping it current, and we would like to get people used to looking at it. It is a good tool to use for getting information out.

Keep the track on the ground, Gregg

Trail Administrator’s Report – Rick Kerner

We finally have decent snow and the groomers have been running regularly and doing a great job.  The drivers deserve a lot of kudos as they have had to do a bunch of fixing both on and off the trail.  They do a heckuva a good job and I just want to say THANKS!

Well, Moosie and I went to the Foresty building in Warroad to meet with Dennis Cameron, Adam M., Gary Johnson and Mary Broten.  We had a very positive meeting about how to keep good trail conditions during logging and during the Lost River hunting cabin removal.  We basically received permission to pull a bit of snow back onto the trail on EDA 1 where the loggers had removed too much snow.  We also found out that there might be some monies to fix the berms on trails in Beltrami which will be a good thing.  We lost a track off the DX recently when the driver tried to get around a bermed corner.  All in all, it was a very positive meeting where all sides had good suggestions and input to help each other out.  I have a full set of meeting minutes I will post after the DNR approves them so all of you can read what went on.

We just received the paperwork for the final grant submittal, which is the extra 20% from the Trail Permit Fees.  Like Greg mentioned above, we will be shopping for a replacement groomer and should have some news shortly on what the drivers agree on to upgrade what we have now.

I’m getting a little long winded here so I am going to close by saying “Drive Safe and Ride Smart.”
